Assumptions & methodology

In-house annual cost = Recruiter salaries + Coordinator salaries + Payroll tax + Tools cost + Overheads + Agency fees + Hiring manager time cost

  • Payroll tax = (Recruiter salaries + Coordinator salaries) × 5.5%. This is the average state payroll tax rate in Australia.
  • Overheads = (Recruiter salaries + Coordinator salaries) × Overhead %. A 15% overhead multiplier is the industry average in Australia.
  • Agency fees = Hires × Agency usage % × Average agency salary × Agency fee %
  • Manager time = Hires × Hours per hire × Hourly cost

In-house cost per hire = In-house annual cost ÷ Hires per year

RPO annual cost = (Hires × RPO cost per hire) + RPO setup fee

Break-even = Fixed in-house costs ÷ (RPO CPH − Variable in-house cost per hire). Rounded to the nearest whole number.
